In this example output, we see two very busy (mirrored) disks. Improving I/O in this case if such high write loads persist might involve modifying the writing applications, or installing SSDs or other faster storage devices. Such disk activity statistics, in combination with other metrics from vmstat, for example, that show high idle HWT times and blocked processes, can be an indication of poor application design or insufficient server resources.
